Why am I unable to delete an older transaction that has been reconciled?
I am using Quicken classic for windows, version R66.18, build 27.1.66.18.
Somehow I had a reconciled transaction from my AmEx account show up in my bank savings account list, and it was no longer listed in my AmEx account. I noticed this when trying to reconcile my Feb 2026 saving account. The transaction date is 4/25/2023.
When I try to delete the reconciled transaction (right click on the transaction and select Delete), I am prompted with "Deleting a reconciled ( R ) transaction, Continue?" and select Yes. NOTHING HAPPENS. It won't delete, it won't let me mark the transaction as Uncleared, it won't let me hit enter key and move to the next transaction if I try to make any of these changes.
Up until now, my savings account has always matched my statement. I did recently update my version. Any ideas how to resolve this? I added an offsetting transaction to clear out the amount so I could reconcile my savings account, but I'd like to remove the erroneous transaction.
Also, how did a transaction from 2023 randomly appear in a different account?

The most likely explanation is that your Q data file is corrupted.
SO, take a backup (just in case) and then click FILE, Validate and Repair file. Check "Validate file" and OK.
Let us know if that helps. If it doesn't, there are additional steps that can be tried.
