Can I just edit the old name and symbol in the securities register?

    Hi @Stephen Fisher,

    Thank you for reaching out. You can update a security’s name and symbol directly in your Security List, and Quicken will automatically apply those changes to all associated transactions. Before making any updates, please save a backup of your data file.

    Steps to update the security name and symbol:

    1. Go to Window in the Quicken toolbar at the top
    2. Select Securities
    3. Find the security whose name or symbol has changed
    4. Edit the Name and Ticker Symbol fields with the new information
    5. Save your changes

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks Laura.

    I gather there is no way to make it effectively from the date of change. mean in the register it will have the new name right back to the beginning. Right? Not optimal but not terrible either

    @Stephen Fisher,

    That’s correct! When you update a security’s name or ticker symbol in the Security List, Quicken applies the new name retroactively to all transactions in your register. Your security’s lots, price history, and other details remain intact; only the label is updated.

    This ensures your historical data stays accurate while reflecting the new information.

    If you want to retain the old name and symbol, you could create a new security with the new name and symbol. Then in any account that holds that security, you can enter a Remove Shares transaction to remove the old security and an Add Shares transaction to add the new one.
