I switched mac to pc- and now I want out
i have been pulling my hair out since trying to switch from mac to windows. ver 67.7- were these two mac/win systems made on the same planet?- on the same timeline? by the same species?
using the windows version gives me PTSD from elementary school when i was 7 and we were learning how to use logo and that game about going west.
I'm tired of the restrictive, overpriced bs of the snobby apple echo-system and am switching all my admin type work over to windows. im am musician/artist so keeping macs for just the music etc.
The transfer hasn't been all that painful and windows is way better than it was 20 years ago when i switched to mac.
i have been using the mac version of quicken classic for almost 15 years for banking and keeping track of business stuff. It's easy and clean and I haven't had a lot of trouble whatsoever. (The whole "venmo downloading… whoops… venmo NOT downloading anymore" back and forth that has been happening since 2019, has prob been the most constantly irritation to deal with)
I been a promoter of QC since i've had it. if a friend want to keep better track of finances i used to always suggest it. QC was just something that worked most of the time. but now I'm converting to the windows version and I have come incredibly close to throwing this smooth little thinkpad across the room so many times i bought a backup JIC.
no night mode… seriously? are we in 1997? the "vintage style" layout would suggest as much. SO MANY OPTIONS. It's a mess with them… but anytime i try to do basic stuff I run into massive restrictions for simple things, like sorting, filters and column customization. the blue dots, which were perfect for clearing transactions and organizing new transactions are worthless and don't even have a filter option? REALLLLY???!??!? I'm no programmer but would it be THAT hard to add for us former mac users who had to rely on them?
Every time i figure out one work around for some stupid nonsensical annoyance there's 10 more things to figure out. don't even get me started about getting the QXF file (or whatever it was) to make the leap. (yeah, don't give any options for transferring ONLY some registers… who would want that?. if there's errors lets just overlap and double everything up with NO warning…)
like most people these days i have to work 19 hours a day just to buy food and pay rent so there's not a ton of time for extra anything else but I have been using what little free time i can carve out almost everyday to get this thing silently incorporated back into my life like it used to be. like a refrigerator. I dont want to think about it. I just want it to work.- and am now a month behind on transactions because instead i'm learning how to decrypt this ancient rune and the milk's gone sour.
my yearly subscription just went through but unless there's some type of a facelift, rebuild, overhaul imma getting the efff off this rickety old POS before next year.

@ericbettencourt you asked “were these two mac/win systems made on the same planet?- on the same timeline? by the same species?”
The answer is no. Ok, technically, both were made on the same planet. But the timelines were radically different. The Windows version has not gotten a real rebuild since it switched from DOS to Windows, the Mac version got a complete rebuild from the ground up something like 10 years ago. Different species of programmers, too. Or at least from different timelines and coding practices.
I feel for you, it must be incredibly painful trying to make the QMac to QWin switch. There are ways to get QWin to behave better. And there are a number of very helpful QWin users here providing answers and suggestions, should you want to get help with QWin.
Quicken user since Q1999. Currently using QW2017.
