How do you change the name of a security after it has been used for years with the incorrect name? Quicken for Windows Deluxe 2017?

How about a simple TOOLS, Security List, click the security name, click Edit Security Details ... and change the name?

I have tried that, but I will try again. The difference seems to be in the 3rd letter position of the name. I have used
Vanguard Index 500 vs 500 Index. The message says you have already had transactions under the old name (in so many words).

OH, so you've got the fund under BOTH names, correct and incorrect? That's different from what you originally asked.

In that case, go into your account that holds the wrong name, and use Enter Transactions to do a Corporate Acquisition at a ration of 1:1
