I am getting asterisks in the Gain/loss columns on the Portfolio Investing summary screen.

In most cases there are no issues in the transaction level detail. How do I get rid of the asterisks and Gain/loss calculations done?

To calculate Gain/Loss, Quicken needs to know the cost and the value of the security holding. I suspect you may have some placeholder transactions in an investment account to resolve.0

"How do I get rid of the asterisks and Gain/loss calculations done?"
First, note the text - which begins with an asterisk - at the foot of the Portfolio display, just below the "Totals" row.
Second: go to Quicken Help > Search Quicken Help, key "placeholder", press Enter (or click "iSeek"), and read as many of the resulting topics as necessary. At a minimum, I suggest:
"About placeholder entries",
"How do I resolve placeholder entries" and
"How do I decide how to resolve placeholder entries
