Save Commands

I am slightly confused regarding saving a file. There is 'File Save as ' function, there is save function after each transaction, there is a backup function where I save backup to my onedrive and then there is sync to cloud function. Trying to understand how these work. Thanks.

By default, when you close Quicken, the file is auto-saved. The Save as function is used when you want to create a duplicate file. So QDATA could be Saved as QDATA_AG for example. Backups are used in the event of catastrophe (drive failure) or data corruption.

Looking at it in a slightly different manner, "FILE, Save a copy as ..." creates a file that's immediately workable ... in fact, the dialog will ask which version you want to use.
A BACKUP, while it can be used, shouldn't be. It should ONLY be Restored. It shouldn't be used because then all of the time/date info becomes part of your "base" file name. And then the next time that you backup, you further extend that name with the date/time of the new backup.

Quicken cloud is not a backup. It is used for web/app access only. Onedrive can be used for backup, if that is where you have specified the backups to go.

What gets uploaded to the Q Cloud is a subset of your entire file ... which is why it can't be used as a backup. The entries only go back so far (90 days if I'm remembering correctly) and certain account types aren't uploaded.
And even though this thread is about QWin, I have to add that for QMac you need to COMPRESS the file before you upload it to online backup services.

What is synching to Quicken cloud vs my backing up on onedrive ? Do both places keep my backup file?
