No, not at all. If you create a new account, do NOT enter the name of your financial institution, and instead click the "My Bank is Not in the List" at the bottom of the add account window. Then click "Add Manual Account". Quicken will add a generically-name account, like "Checking" or "Credit Card" in your left sidebar. control-click on the account name in the sidebar, select "Rename" and enter the name you want it to be in your Quicken.

Could you clarify whether you don't want it to download automatically (e.g. only download when you ask it to) or whether you don't want it to download from your bank at all (e.g. you'll enter your transactions manually)? Both are easy to accomplish, but I don't want to send you in the wrong direction without being sure what you want to accomplish.

I want to enter my transactions manually, the way I've always done.

1) Click on the account in the left sidebar for which you want to disconnect downloads.
2) In the lower right corner of the transaction register, click on "Settings".
3) In the "At your Financial Institution" section at the top of the settings screen, choose "Deactivate Downloads".

Does that mean I first have to activate downloads in order to set up a new account?
