Cannot pull a successful Category Summary?? have closed out & restarted several times!!

I need a Category/Transaction summary for last year: it appears to have hung up on a single category - no matter how I customize, add/subtract, or restart the program.

Are you saying the program crashes or freezes generating the report? How do you know it's a specific category causing the problem?

My first question is which report you're using. Is it "Category Summary" on the Reports menu? The reports under "New Report" on the menu are old reports that carry over from the predecessor to the current Quicken Mac, the 2010-era Quicken Essentials; the developers have been working over the past few years to completely re-write a new reports engine, but those legacy reports remain in the program currently. There  are several known bugs with the Category Summary report, so let's try to generate the same type of report using the new reports engine. 

If you're using Quicken version 5.11.x*, do this:

• Reports > New Report
• Transaction
• Rows=Category
• Create Report
• Customize
• Set date range to Last Year
• OK

Does this report work?

*If you've updated to the new version 5.12 -- which is in limited rollout mode as this is written -- it's only slightly different:

• Reports > Create Transaction Report
• Rows=Category
• Continue to Customize
• Set date range to Last Year
• OK
