There are a few different dimmed transactions. One is a placeholder transaction, although this is typically seen on investment accounts after importing from Quicken Windows or Quicken Mac 2007.
The more common one is a future-dated scheduled transaction. These will have a little clock icon in the status column which is usually on the far left of the register lines. You can control whether you see these at all, or how far into the future you see them, by clicking the Settings icon in the bottom toolbar on the far right, and setting your preference to see none, just the next instance, or all instances in the range of time you select:
A scheduled transaction must be marked "paid" to become a regular, non-dimmed transaction (whether in the future or the past).
