Can I transfer an account from one quicken file to another quicken file?

Was experiencing some balance issues in one of my quicken files (contains several accounts). All accounts could be rebuilt using the standard update feature during adding accounts. That did not work with my quicken investment account. There does not appear to be an easy way to capture my original investment costs. That account in my previous quicken file is ok and I would like to create a copy of that account within my new quicken file without having to manually type in all the data from the past several years.
Secondly, when I do download transactions from my 401k financial institution, I always seem to receive placeholders and I am not sure what to do with them when the cost is not apparent to me.

We may export the account from the origin datafile and import the account into the destination data file. Quicken supports a number of export/import file formats:

If you decide to use QIF, you may want to consider: http://www.quicknperlwiz.com
Regarding placeholders, you may want to review: https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7267839/quicken-faq-managing-placeholder-entries-in-quicken-for-windows5
