Why are memos on same payee from previous transactions repeated again on new, different transactions

Memo descriptions & notes from old transactions for same payee will be never the same for me when I am entering new transactions for the same payee.
They old descriptions must be cleared before new memo descriptions can be entered.

I actually find it very useful to have the previous memo prefilled. Sometimes I use the same memo or sometimes it's easier to slightly edit the previous one.
But that said, when you tab into the memo field, you will notice the whole thing is selected. There is no need to clear it first. Just start typing your new memo and it will replace what's there.Quicken Mac Subscription; Quicken Mac user since the early 90s5 -
Also, if you're entering transactions manually, after entering the Payee, you can press Option+Tab to move to the next field, and that will prevent Quicken from auto-filling anything from the previous transaction for that Payee. This is great for a Payee where the category often changes, as well as the amount and memo. But as RickO notes above, you otherwise just Tab to the Memo field and either just type over it or press Delete to wipe out the previous memo is you want no memo this time.Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19935
