VSM was bought out with cash and now my E*trade account balance is high by the cash amount

For unknown reasons, E*Trade only downloaded the cash portion of the transaction ... and not the sale of VSM.

EDIT this transaction (in your brokerage account) to change it to a SALE.

How did you record, in QMac, that buy out? It should have been a SALE of VSM for the amount of cash received.

I downloaded the data from E•trade. It wass recorded this way:
