Is there a way to turn off the account register bar that appears below the register and above the downloaded transactions area? It contains various totals for the register such as transactions and online/ending balances. It is of no use to me and is taking up valuable screen space.

Nope, some of it will always be there. Online balance is not shown if account is not setup for downloading, but there is always be an Ending Balance.
