Is it mandatory to link shares to an account
Mark Willis
I have shares managed by another person. I wish to track this portfolio without linking them to an account (so no cash balance necessary). Just number of shares and price per share so that the resulting assets can be added to my net worth reports. Is this possible, or does Quicken force you to add a cash account when monitoring shares? Many thanks

Can't you just add a Brokerage account and use Advanced Setup so it's a manual account?

Yeah - as above -
just add an Account - and use the "Advanced" to handle everything manually.
If the shares are for a publicly traded security, add it to your Watch List, and have the quotes checkmarked for Download.

Not sure what you mean by "link shares to an account" ... but any security can ONLY be tracked in Q by placing it in an Investment account.
As stated above, that account doesn't have to be online ... but it MUST be an investment account.
