Note: Quicken Deluxe or higher edition required for this feature. You can track anything of value (gold, silver, oil paintings, collectible coins, old cars, etc.) in Quicken. All you have to do is to set up one or more brokerage investment accounts as "manual" accounts, not connected to any brokerage for transaction downloading. Use the "Advanced Setup" text link at the bottom of the Add Account dialog to do that.
Next, add new Security entries to your Security List. Choose Type = Other. Name it "Gold bars, troy ounce" or similar, to uniquely describe the asset. Don't give it a ticker symbol. In the account register record the current holdings as "Add Shares" transactions. Record future buy or sell transactions as such, Buy Shares or Sell Shares.
Set up a Portfolio view for these accounts. If you have updated asset values to enter, use this view, set it to the "As of" date (the effective date of the updated value), then type the new price quote over the Quote/Price field8

You can manually set up a security where the price per "share" corresponds to the price per ounce of gold or whatever then buy shares corresponding to the number of ounces you own.
Unfortunately I don't think Quicken has a way to automatically download the prices so you would have to do that manually to keep the value of your holdings accurate.QWin Premier subscription0 -
