You should be able to simply download the program to the laptop and install it. Then copy any Quicken data files (FileName.QDF) into the Quicken folder (that Quicken creates) under your Documents folder. There's really not much to it.

Just a suggestion regarding the data files: Create a folder at the root of the drive called Data, such as C:\Data. Then create a sub-directory for each application's data files, such as c:\Data\Quicken. For each year's data files create C:\Data\Quicken\QW2019\ C:\Data\Quicken\QW2018 etc. Direct your application to locate it's files in this directory instead.
Install each application the the root directory also in it's own directory, such as C:\QW2014\, C:\QW2017, etc. This makes finding things much easier than having everything buried in C:\Program Files\ and C:\Program Files(x86)\.
Also, you can backup all of your application data files in one operation by simply backing up c:\Data\ to another drive or a NAS device. You don't really need to back up installed programs all that often and take up all the extra space for their multiple files.
Keep a directory, preferable on a bulk storage disk such as 'D:\' that is called 'D:\Installs\' or even 'D:\Installs\Quicken2019\', etc. and keep all your install images and update/patch files here.
Further, be VERY critical of what you download and install on your machine. And if you DO install something you are not going to use, get rid of it instead of leaving it to clutter things.
A lap top that has the ability to install two hard drives can be a great help in doing upgrades and makes the process far easier than even using partitions, since you can switch actual hard drives fairly easy.Ó¿Õ¬
