Market Value in HOLDING Different than Market Value shown in Register

No big deal but none the less I am couious....
My VanGuard Register which has 8 funds....
Register "Total Market Value" (Lower right corner of Register) shows 1 penny less than the HOLDINGS "Market Value"
Vanguards Market Value is the same as show in Quicken's HOLDING.....
So the only display figure different is the "Total Maket Value" the Quicken Register shows; its 1 cent less than show in HOLDINGS and Vanguard.
I won't lose any sleep over it, but I am courious as to why the Registers Total Market Value is 1 cent less than in HOLDING and Vanguards.....

I have not explored this in detail but the calculation for each security is
Market value = shares * price per share.
and for the account the total market value is the sum of the market values for all the securities in the account.
Both the share quantities and prices per share can have up to 6 decimal places, or 12 decimal places in the product of the two.
I would guess that in some places Quicken is rounding the market value for each security to two decimal places then adding these to get the total market value, while in other places Quicken adds the unrounded security values then rounds the total to 2 places. This would account to the differences you are seeing.
If you go to Edit > Preferences > Reports only, you can set the decimal places for reports to 6. Then look at the Portfolio Value report for the account in question to see the raw numbers and compute for yourself to see where the rounding is taking place.

It was set to 3...chnaged it to 6...and the Holdings and Total Market Value matched....thanks. I felt it was in how "rounding" was being applied but thought that the Holdings...and Total Market Value would employee the same rounding figuring....0

Hmm ...
Changing that setting IMO should not have affected either the total in the Holdings view or the Total Market Value in the transaction list. It must have forced something to recompute. I'm glad the figures now match.QWin Premier subscription0
