How do you plan on adding the late fee?* By creating a new Invoice with a Finance Charge line item and then mailing it? You should not edit an existing unpaid invoice and add line items to it.

* Or by using the Finance Charge action in the Invoices account? This will add a record to the invoices account register, but to let the customer know about the Finance Charge you need to create and mail a Customer Statement.
