"Balance" column is empty when viewing checks

When I'm looking at transaction listing, I see number in all columns, except for "Balance." It is completely blank. Adding and removing "Balance" Column does not help this matter.

You didn't indicate which version of Quicken you're using, but this could be due to your register being sorted in some order other than date order, or due to filter(s) being applied to limit which transactions are visible. You should make sure there are no filters (if there's a red Clear Filters button, click it), and make sure you're sorted by date (click on the Date heading).

Also, you can't display a balance if you click on any of the Group headings in the left sidebar (like All Transactions, Cash, Investing, etc.), since there is no balance across multiple accounts.
