Why does cash not show in an investment account in portfolio view?
cebeck
I am using Quicken 2020 subscription on Windows 10. When sell a security and and keep the cash in the investment account, the cash amount does not show in Portfolio view and is not included in the account total.

If your cash is really cash and not swept into a fund, Customize the portfolio view. On the Securities tab, check "No security (includes cash)" at the top of the list.

Does your investment company keep your cash in a traditional sweep account (kind of like a bank savings account) or in a money market fund (sometimes called a core account or a settlement account)?
More and more investment companies use account cash to buy money market fund shares so they can pay higher dividends than can be paid in a traditional sweep account. Some of these companies will still report to Quicken those shares as "cash" but others will include them in "holdings", instead. If it's the latter, your cash will not show up in Portfolio or in the Account Register "Cash Balance" but will show up as shares in your account Holdings.
You might want to confirm that your account information in Quicken matches your account information as reported by your FI (the investment company) match.
Account Register>click on the blue underlined "Cash Balance" figure at the bottom right of the screen. Does it show your Quicken account cash balance and your cash balance as downloaded by your FI are in agreement?
Account Register>Gear icon (top right of the register)>Reconcile Shares. Do you get a pop-up that says your Quicken account holdings and the holdings reported by your FI are in agreement or do you get a pop-up stating that there is a mismatch? If it's the latter, make note of the details...security(ies), date(s), quantity(ies).
If everything matches up OK then it is highly probably that your FI is keeping your cash in a money market fund and is reporting it that way. To find out which fund it is you can either log in to your online account at the FI to check your cash settings or you can look for a security that has the same cash value that you think you should be seeing in "Cash Balance."
If you are getting mismatches then there are somethings that can be done to get them into agreement. Let me know what you find out and we can then take it from there.
