Purchased basic program and now wish to upgrade to deluxe

I purchased the starter program and now wish to upgrade to deluxe. Why do I have to pay $49.99 when I just paid $34.99. I should just be able to pay the difference. Someone please advise.

I just followed the instructions given above. As karpink said, it doesn't charge the difference for the upgraded subscription (~$10) you have to buy a whole new subscription at full price. Can this really be true?

When did you buy Starter? What year version is it? Like 2017 or earlier?

I bought mine in March 2020. Previously owned 2018 Mac version.

When you upgrade, the prorate for your original subscription value is added on as additional time to the new subscription.
