After every one-step update I need to go to task manager to end the Quicken task because I receive a not responding error. Why?

Just in case you're not aware, a not responding message may be normal and terminating Quicken using the task manager may corrupt the data file. In other words, if the Quicken process is terminated abnormally, I suggest you restore a good backup.4
