How do I create a report the shows the difference between account balances

How do I create a report the shows the difference between account balances over periods of time. For example I would like to know the difference between account balances from January 2018 to December 2019.

Have you looked at the Cash Flow Comparison report (Reports > Comparison > Cash Flow Comparison) or the Account Balances report (Reports > Net Worth & Balances > Account Balances) or Banking Summary report (Reports > Banking > Banking Summary)?  After opening the reports you can customize them by clicking on the upper right Customize Gear icon.
