A screenshot showing the number in question would be helpful. Also the version of Quicken.

Nothing is selected but the cursor is on a transaction and I get that number.

When you select more than one transaction in the register Quicken will total them. You are looking at that total.

What version ...... Help --> About Quicken

Also, what type of acct - seems like a checking type -

If line items are selected, my QWin changes the "transactions" to "selected" if more than a single item is selected.... but stays the same for 1 item selected.
Can't reproduce an amount number appearing in that area.

Like I said above I have no idea what this number is, but since @Rocket J Squirrel brought up the full screen width I thought I would point out something to @ps56k.

From you screenshot there isn't any space between your Online Balance that the number of transactions, so you probably couldn't see this number even if it was there. When there isn't enough space the numbers just start getting "truncate" or completely gone.
