Don't use the report called "Category Summary" -- or any of the five other reports found under Reports > Other Reports and denoted with a gray icon. These are old reports which is on its way to being eliminated from the program. Instead, use one of the reports that use the new reports engine, such as Transactions by Category or Category Summary by Year or Month, or Create New Report > Transaction (or Summary) > Row=Category. The modern reports do update results in real-time as edits to transactions are made.
