Archive Not Working. All Transaction Still In Current File. Whys??

Quicken Deluxe 2020 ver. R31.12
Trying to reduce QDP file by archiving all data from 12/31/17 back to 2014. Want to see in my Current File only data from 1/1/18 to today. Operation starts copying then get message that Quicken "not responding". Copy progress bar goes half way then it ends abruptly. Then the process ask me to create a password for the new Current File. I do so and start it up. File is identical to before the Archive process. All transactions still there in my Checking, Savings, and Credit Card going back to 2014. Archiving not working after several attempts. And yes, I know about the cleared transactions thing and about investments trans not being archived.
