I want to merge two categories together. There is a merger button under edit categories but it is greyed out. What am I missing?

In the Cateories window, select the categories that you want to merge ... typical selection process of shift click to select a range of multiple categories or cmd-click to select individual categories. As long as two more more categories are selected, the Merge Categories button will be enabled.
You'll be asked into which of the selected categories you want all transactions (including splits) re-categorized.Quicken Mac and Windows subscription • Quicken user since 1990

One more thing... all categories selected to be merged must be at the same hierarchical level. If not, the merge button will be grayed out. To fix this, first drag and drop one of the categories to the same level as the other one.Quicken Mac Subscription; Quicken Mac user since the early 90s4

Well, if we're adding "one more thing": you also can't merge a category or subcategory which is one of Quicken's small number of required categories. (Such as any of the subcategories of Investing).Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19934
