The date the $10,000 is assumed
invested
may not be the date of the first plot point. For example, if we're viewing the default
last 12 months
chart today (4/2/2021), the $10,000 would be
invested
on 4/3/2020 and the first plot point would be on 4/30/2020 (the end of the month). Last year, the market indices rebounded sharply during that period. For example, from 4/3/2020 to 4/30/2020 the S&P 500 index rose 17%.
