Auto categorize no longer works

vendors such as Amazon and many grocery stores append unique characters to their names in downloaded transactions, so that auto categorize thinks it is a new vendor and I have to fill in the category manually for every transaction. Here is an example:
Amazon.com*XE3Z77HS3. I would like this to be categorized as Amazon, but when I look at the category list, each amazon transaction looks like a new vendor with this unique name. Is is possible to have quicken ignore everything past the asterisk? The same goes for the grocery store I use regularly. I have to add "groceries" as the category manually because of the extra stuff after the asterisk,
