You can always type a zero into the Payment or Deposit columns of a transaction.
But, as far as the programmers are concerned, 0.00 is neither a negative amount nor a positive amount and so it doesn't display in either column ... I'm guessing they couldn't decide which column to show it in ...
If you absolutely insist on seeing 0.00, you need to look at printed reports showing Transaction Detail and look at the Amount column.

I am able to place zeros in the payment or deposit amounts on a transaction in registers.  A zero amount will display as blank in the register.
