Registers & Transactions (Windows)
How can I automatically split a downloaded credit card transaction where I got cash back?
JohnZ101
Example of downloaded credit card transactions.
1) Transactions where I got cash back. Cash amount might be different each time.
a. Aldi cashover 100 150.
b. Aldi cashover 40 60
2) Same store, but no cash back.
c. Aldi 90
What I want to happen automatically hopefully? Split transaction
a. Cash and ATM 100, Groceries 50. Total is 150
b. Cash and ATM 40, Groceries 20 Total is 60
c. Groceries 90
Unfortunately, the only way I know is to open each individual transaction where we got cash back and create a split transaction.
The downloaded transaction has the cash over amount in the title. Is there a way to automate this?
Logic seems to be
If downloaded payee includes word cashback,
Then
Create a split transaction
Enter the amount of cashback from the desription in category Cash and ATM
Enter the difference to groceries.
Else
Download and used the default groceries category that is set up for this vendor
Thanks
John

Not going happen. The closest you could come is use a renaming rule to split off the transactions to two memorized payees one that is not saved as a split, and the other saved at a split transaction by percentage. Nothing is going to read your payee/memo information to get a value out of it.
What's more every time I tried using Quicken's saving splits by percentage it didn't work right for me. I believe that was because even though it did save the transaction I memorized by percentage, it didn't recalculate the amounts on the next download if the total was a different amount.
