Quicken Classic for Windows
Installing and Updating (Windows)
An error occurred. Unable to check for updates.

I just ran Quicken on my Win10 machine and it updated to vs. R36.23. Did my work, backed up, then upgraded to Win11 through the standard Microsoft process. Now when I click the regular shortcut Quicken stalls at the first screen: "An error occurred. Unable to check for updates. The server file failed to load. Could not parse the URL "%updatepath%/wyserver.wys" - it's either malformed or is an unknown protocol." Happens every time over two days. I can still open qw.exe from the directory and everything appears normal.

Hello
@mccallbills
,
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Community and telling us about your issue, though I apologize that you are experiencing this.
If you haven't already, I suggest that you perform a
clean
uninstall/reinstall (
this is
different from
simply uninstalling and reinstalling the program
) which will clear out and replace the existing configuration files for Quicken (
this does not affect any of your data and/or backup file
s).
To do so, please refer to this
support article
and scroll down to the section titled
If the steps above do not resolve the issue
. Then, open and follow the instructions found in the blue dropdown sections titled
First: Download and use QCleanUI
and
Second: Rename Quicken Shared Folders
.
Let us know how it goes!

That solved the problem - smooth, prompt support, thanks.

I'm having the same problem. Please post the link for the "support article" since the link is broken and just returns me to the main page. thanks

Hello
@VA Duck Fan
,
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Community, however, since this is an older post that was originally created back in October 2021, it is less likely to receive an answer now.
The article previously referenced has also been archived as the info is outdated and no longer valid. I suggest creating a
new post
for better visibility and to potentially receive responses from other users who may
currently
be experiencing the same problem. Doing so will also assist us with better tracking ability in the event that this issue may result in an escalation being required.
Please be sure to include a description of the issue, any error messages as well as the version of Quicken you have currently running (Help > About Quicken). The more information you are able to provide will help the Community to better understand and assist.
Thank you!
