It's pretty infuriating that you can enter a tag in Starter but not have it available in a report. Just saying.

Well the fact that you can enter them at all seems like a mistake.  If you go back before Quicken Subscription tags didn't show up anywhere in the Starter edition.  It is like they actually changed something in the Subscription version and part of the tag functionality leaked through.  I'm sure that wasn't intentional.

Perhaps the idea was that if you had a higher level and used Tags then downgraded to Starter then upgraded again, the Tags would not be lost.

Possible, but I still doubt it.  The data file format is the same for whatever level of subscription you have.  That is why you can go up and down in the level of the subscription without any loss of data.  What the subscription level does is change what the GUI part sees/allows.

So in the grand scheme of things what happens if you use the Category/Tag in the Category in starter edition?

Well you can see them/use them in the register, but when you go to try to use them in reports, they are just not there.
