You can try installing it.   If you get it installed you will have to update it. If you have an older version, One of the SuperUsers has posted the update patches for older versions (2000 and newer) of Quicken

You should at least try to convert to the 2013 version since you don’t use any online services or download transactions now.  Then it should run on newer versions of Windows.  Starting in 2014 they instituted an ID password to get into your own data. I’m staying on 2013.

2013 should run on Windows 10.  You can download 2013 Deluxe for free using this how to convert article.  It’s under Converting from Quicken 2004-2009.

If your version is 2003 or earlier you will need to first convert to 2004.  Then convert to 2013.  Read that whole article on converting.

And FYI - If your Quicken was before 2010 you should have several files making up the data.

The main data file ends in .QDF.  All Quicken versions prior to QW2010 store your data in a series of files all sharing the same filename but with different extensions like  - .QDF .IDX, .QEL, .QPH  and all 4 of those files were rolled into a single-file .QDF starting in 2010.

  • Hello @thejamster,

Thank you for coming to the Community with your question!

This has not been tested, and I am fairly certain that there are not very many people trying to do this. Therefore I'm not sure how many users will be able to advise you on this.

That being said, Q2000 is unsupported and out of date. It should continue to work on whatever OS you had it on previously, but I can assume that it will not be compatible with Win11.

Really the only way to find out is to try. So I would say try installing it, if the installation is successful use a copy of your file in it for a while to make sure it performs as expected before moving over to it completely.

If you do try this, please come back and let us know if this worked for you or not. Then if anyone else finds themselves asking this question down the road, they will have your experience to look at. Thank you.

As you will be invoking programs that were developed for an earlier version of Windows, you may need to set the program files' Compatibility mode property to an earlier version of Windows for them to run correctly.  This also means that if you are installing Quicken from a read-only media, you may need to copy the media temporarily to a modifiable drive (for example, C:\ folder).  If you install Quicken 2000 Deluxe, I suggest you also download and apply the Quicken 2000 Release R4 Deluxe patch from: http://www.quicknperlwiz.com/quickenpatches.html
  • Thank you so much everyone for replying so quickly - i will go through all suggestions and advice and report back - thanks again!
