By any chance is the financial institution USAA?
USAA started coding all of their transactions as if they were transfers, which causes Quicken to put in the TXFR in the checking number, which in turn locks out any "category" other than a transfer.
It is quite a pain, but there isn't anything in Quicken that will fix it short of manually entering the transaction before it is downloaded and matching to it.Signature:
