Duplicate transactions

Hi again @Otis1303,
On your most recent question about why one transaction showed up and another didn't, I can only speculate that it has something to do with the timing of your "reconnecting" the account for downloads. But it is really hard to say for sure.
I would only reiterate that if you use only one method of downloading, you should not have these issues going forward.
Good luck.

Hi @Otis1303,
So, just to make sure that I understand what is happening - are you saying that you NEVER enter transactions into your account registers but always wait until you download historical transactions from your various accounts - including your bank accounts (from which you may make payments) and your credit card accounts (where you'll have both charges and payments)?
If so, I do not understand why or how you can have duplicate transactions. Can you help by clarifying what is actually happening?
Thanks,

Yes that is exactly correct. I don't enter them manually but download them from my various accounts usually through Quicken "Update Now" feature. Like I said the transactions are similar (maybe the memo is missing) and the transaction dates are different by a day or two. I don't understand it. And the range of dates is limited to a couple of months (best as I can tell so far). It only seems to be associated with one of my accounts for that date range also.0

Hi again @Otis1303
I think you are indicating that this is only affecting one of your accounts and if so, what is the name of the financial institution that you are downloading from? Also which method are you using to connect with it? I think you said that this is happening with both your bank account(s) and credit cards as well?
The "timing" issue, especially if you are making manual entries before you download, and if the dates are 1 or 2 days different, may just be timing, but if something else could be more troublesome. Is (are) this account (or accounts) with Schwab, by any chance?

Nope not Schwab, Capital One. I used to have a problem downloading my Capital One entries using Quicken "Update Now" feature so I had to log into my account through the Capital One website and export the data into Quicken. But Just today I used the "One Step Update" feature which seemed to work. It might have re-downloaded some entries I had downloaded previously by using the export feature from the Capital One website. But I still don't understand why the date would be off by a day or two. A took an image of one of entries that was a duplicate which I could share but I don't know how to attach it to this comment.0

Just to be clear. I don't think it is happening to my other accounts, only my Capital One account.0

To me this sounds like Capital One is sending pending transactions, then when the post, sends them again. This the very reason financial institutions aren’t suppose to send pending transactions.Signature:

Ok so here is the image showing two entries for "Apple" for $48.75 one on 10/13/21 with info in the memo field, the other on 10/14/21 without a memo. Another interesting thing is that it doesn't happen to ever entry in this account, only some of them. For instance the "Trader Joe's" entry on 10/13/21 has no duplicate. I am going to check with my Capital One statement to see what the actual posting date for this transaction is.0

So I checked my Capital One statement and found that, as Chris_QPW suggested, the entry on 10/13/21 corresponds to the transaction date and the 10/14/21 entry corresponds to the posting date (see attached). But in the other image I sent for Trader Joe's entry on 10/13/21, the transaction date was 10/21/21 but it doesn't show up as an entry. Why only sometimes?0

Oops that date for Trader Joe's should have been 10/12/21.0

Hi again @Otis1303,
Based on your recent posts and the image, I suspect that this issue is related to the two different downloading methods that you've used recently. When you have downloaded "manually" by getting the file from the website and then later using One Step Update, it makes sense that Quicken would download some duplicate transactions. So, you'll need to go through the downloaded entries and manually delete the duplicates.
However, as long as you go forward using one downloading method (i.e. always download a file from the website - or - always use One Step Update, but not both) you should be okay.
Let me know if you have any followups.
