Quicken Subscription data files can be read by any version of Quicken 2016 and above.
Other than that, for all other versions they aren't backwards compatible.
For instance, Quicken 2015 can't read a Quicken 2016 data file.
The only way to go back to an older version before Quicken 2016 is to attempt a QIF export/import:
File -> File Export -> QIF...
...
File -> File Import -> QIF...

The Quicken subscription Quicken files should be compatible back to Quicken 2016. To revert back to earlier versions requires exporting and importing QIF files. If you haven't already, you may want to review:
