Post-Crash Recovery?

The Win7 PC on which I was using Quicken Starter 2011 to maintain our church checkbook recently crashed (software was bundled with a copy of TurboTax back in the day, I believe). I was able to recover the QDATA.QDF file from the non-boot data drive. Can I simply open this file from a new Quicken install on a different PC? From what I have read, it seems this WON'T work, but I want to make sure.
