Other accounts in the investments category are ok. How do I make an adjustment to compensate for the overstatement?

The answer depends on what has caused the overstatement. There are many possible causes. For example, an erroneous price quote can be manually corrected in the security's price history but, if the ticker symbol is incorrect, it should also be corrected.
