Wrong vendor downloading from website

On a regular basis, Quicken downloads the incorrect vendor when I download from my credit card.  Ex. JC Penney shows up on a regular basis when it should be Auntie Anne's or Aldi's.

If you allow it, Quicken will try to clean up and standardize Payees using an internal payee list and set of rules. Sometimes it gets this wrong. User defined Renaming rules also affect the payee that ends up in your register.

There are settings that control his behavior. When a Payee name has been changed, it will appear in "double quotes" in the downloaded transaction area of the register. To view the original name, hover your mouse over the name.

To disable the internal renaming, go to Edit > Preferences > Downloaded transactions and un-check the Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to Payee box.

You can review and correct your renaming rules and control how they are created and applied with the settings in the Your renaming rules section of the same menu.
