Recategorizing

I would like to tag numerous transactions and recategorize them all at once. Tagging them must be done manually, as there is no common denominator. I would like to go down list of transactions and tag certain one's to be recategorized. Is there a way to do this for Quicken for Windows? Thanks!

You can select a group of individual transactions by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on the transactions to highlight them (just like anything else in Windows).  Once you have a group selected, right click on the highlighted transactions and select "Edit".  From there, you can change the category of the selected transactions as a group.

@earthquick - The easiest is to just go into the account register, add the Tag column, and sort transactions if that will make things easier.  Then tag the appropriate transactions by entering the appropriate tag in the Tag Column.  If the tags are across several accounts, then use "All Transactions" for the account register.  You can use filters to narrow down the transactions.

I would not recommend using a report or "search and replace".  The report is cumbersome because you need to click into the transaction in the report and then the transaction in the register.  Since you don't have criteria for the tags, the search and replace cannot be narrowed down effectively and it will be a very slow time-consuming process and your computer will seem to "freeze".

No matter how you look at it, manually adding tags is a time-consuming process, but entering directly into the account register is still the easiest and safest way to do it, in my opinion.
