Q Premier R42.8 buiId 27.1.42.B. I regularly backup weekly to external hard drive. last successful backup was 7/16/22. Now backup fails and eventually get error; "Quicken windows not responding." Looking at the folder in the external hard drive I see a backup file with today's date but with only a fraction of the usual backup size. So I have to delete that corrupted or unsuccessful backup file. Cold rebooot is no help.

Are you able to perform the Quicken backup to a folder on an internal drive?    If not, I suspect your Quicken file is corrupt.  I suggest you restore a recent Quicken file backup.

If you are able to perform the backup to a folder on an internal drive, are you able to copy the Quicken file backup to the folder on the external hard drive?  If not, I suspect you may have an issue with the external hard drive.
  • @NV-VT - another issue could be if the external hard drive is attached to a network.  If so, I have found these types of connections to be unstable and very slow.

Thanks. I CAN backup to internal drive AND I CAN then copy that file to the usual folder in my external drive. So I am puzzled. Still have plenty of room on the external drive. BTW the ext HD is not attached to any network. Just home PC set up. I saw another post where someone was experiencing a similar backup issue recently. I believe my issue started after a Q patch or update

The good news is you have a work around.

If you believe this is a bug in Quicken, I suggest you report the issue: select Help > Report a problem...
