investment reporting by Industry

Quicken is able to capture the industry for each stock on a quote update. However, is there a way to generate a report that groups securities by Industry? I know we can report by Asset Class and customize some of the spare Asset Classed to achieve somewhat the same result, but it is quite restrictive and cumbersome

One thing you can do is to customize an Investing > Portfolio view to include the Industry/Category column.

Unfortunately you can't group and subtotal the view by Industry but you can click on the column heading to sort by that column.

You can print the view by going to File > Print Portfolio or export it to Excel and manipulate the data there.

If you are running Premier or higher, you can view but unfortunately not print or export a breakdown by Morningstar's security Sector or Stock Type by going to Investing > Porttfolio X-Ray.

@Q_lurker is right about grouping by Industry, but it only works for individual stocks. Mutual funds and ETFs are all in the "Unknown" group. With the Industry/Category column, you can also see Morningstar's categories for the funds.

Portfolio views allow for Group by: Industry.  You do not need to have the Industry/Category column included in the view.  FWIW: I have never been sold on the idea that the Industry assignment is correct, but at least it is something.  As far as I know, there is nothing inconsistent with categorization various FI's might be using.  (BRK.A as Insurance-Diversified; BRK.B as Unknown; and some similar disconnects exist.)

Thanks for the advice and suggested workarounds. I will try them both.
