How do I get Quicken to open most recent file on startup?

I have used Quicken for over 25 yrs. Lately, when I open Quicken, an older file comes up instead of the most recent one. I always backup after each session and save the latest file in the same place, but now I have to find the recent file manually and open it with Quicken. It asks me if I want this to be my working file but next time I use Quicken it reverts to the older one from about 2 months ago.

IF you're clicking on the Q program icon, then Q should automatically open to the last file used.
That it's not,  makes me suspect that you're clicking on a datafile icon.
To determine if that's the case,  RIGHT click on the icon and then left click on Properties.  If it's the program icon, it should look like this:

If it doesn't look like that, then you're clicking on a datafile icon and that's what Q is opening.
