I’m a total beginner to Quicken and I want to setup Quicken with 6 months of transactions in a checking account and 2 credit cards. Is the best way to do a direct download/import .QFX files to get those date ranges?

thanks

I want to make sure that I get the opening balance correct.

If you are importing history, the Opening Balance is always back calculated using the current balance and the transactions in the register.

Ok, I read the FAQ in the link, what happens if you disable OSU and download the, "date range" of transactions that you want and then you enable OSU? Will the OSU download all of the transactions that weren't downloaded in the, "date range?"

I want to only go back 6 months and start from there.

The initial OSU brings down whatever the financial institution decides to allow on the first download.  So, you may get some dups, so you have to be careful when you accept them, after you get past the initial setup, you "shouldn't" have any problems with duplicates.
