    Hello @sbange01,

We are sorry about this issue with managing accounts and utilizing foreign currencies. Thank you for asking about this here on the Quicken Community.

Are you attempting to operate a single account with a particular currency?

I look forward to your response, and I hope to provide further information.

    Thank you,

    Quicken Jared

The currency of an account can't be changed once it is created and has any transactions in it.

I think you need to describe why you are trying to change the currency.

i was unaware of even having foreign currency accounts. it's just to make my reporting a little more accurate.i've attempted to create a new account and add the entries from the old one to the new one, but that's not working too well.

Are you adding the new transactions manually or are you trying to move them from the old account?

I tried creating a new account and copying the entries from the old one. I never saw where I could designate a foreign currency.

Let's backup.  Have you turned on multiple currency support?
Note that you have to have the Deluxe edition or above for this (and note that the Canadian version doesn't have this setting because it is always in multiple currency modes).
Edit -> Preferences -> Calendar and currency -> Multiplecurrency support

With that on, when you go to create an offline account, you should see this:

With that done and copying a regular transaction from a USD account to a CAD account worked just fine for me.  Note that it copies the amount straight over, there isn't going to be currency exchange adjustment.  When copying a transfer between two USD accounts to a CAD account it did ask for the exchange rate.

I have turned on currency support, but I'm not using an offline account. I'm just connecting to the bank to download transactions.

Quicken Windows US doesn't support downloading from online accounts that aren't in USD.  Stated another way, Quicken Windows US only support US financial institutions (in USD), even if the financial institution is in multiple countries and showing these foreign accounts for downloading transactions.  And Quicken Windows Canadian only supports financial institutions in Canada in CAD or USD.
