I'm having trouble with Quicken and Ameriprise. There are differences in shares in some accounts as of 1/31/2023 and differences in share price at 1/31/2023 resulting in quicken balances for some accounts that are different than statements.

Also, one account had all balances transferred out but the holdings still show up in Quicken in the old account and in a new account.

Expect others have had this problem.

    Hello @kathy_q,

We are sorry about this problem with tracking your investment accounts. Thank you for speaking with us about this here on the Quicken Community.

Are these shares being downloaded with these differences, suddenly? If so, and if you have the chance, you could save a backup by going to File > Copy or Backup File... in the upper menu at the top of the screen and then create a 'test' data file by going to the same menu and selecting New Quicken File... Next, choose New Quicken File in the screen that follows, and then click OK. After this, choose a file location on your computer and then click Save. Choose Don't use mobile and web when prompted.

You may then add your Ameriprise-associated accounts by navigating to the Add Account button in the Tools menu option in upper left-hand side of the screen, or in the more central, upper left-hand panel, denoted by the '+' symbol. Let us know if you see the same problems occurring in the test data file once this is attempted.

Let us know about your results, if you can.

    Thank you,

    Quicken Jared

Difference in shares:  Presuming share holdings were correct at end of December, I suggest you compare transactions recorded in Quicken to those reported by Ameriprise for January.  There may be duplicates in Quicken or transactions missing in Quicken.

Difference in share price:  Is this a small amount (pennies or less per share) or a significant amount (more than pennies)?  A small amount can occur (but is rare) if Quicken is using a different source for end-of-day values than the brokerage s using.  Larger differences may indicate a security mis-match or some other problem.  Also, what type of security, and perhaps the specific security, is showing the price discrepancy?

How did you manage this transfer of shares?  My general position is to NOT rely on downloads from the brokerage to get those types of transactions correct within Quicken.  It is frequently better to use Quicken's Shares Transferred to get things right.  If you are satisfied with the way the shares are represented in the receiving account, you may just be lacking Remove Shares transactions in the old account.
