Lost My Transactions

I opened a new brokerage account at my bank. Quicken would not allow me to simply add one account, and insisted on logging onto my bank and downloading all my accounts which already existed in Quicken. In re-downloading the accounts, it managed to duplicate holdings and transactions in a long-standing IRA account. It seemed complex and I did not see how to correct it, so I wound up deleting the account and re-downloading it from the bank, thinking this would bring everything back up-to-date.

Unfortunately, Quicken brought this in as a new account and only downloaded one month of transactions. Now, no matter what I do in terms of telling Quicken to download all available transactions, there are no transactions from before April 2023. Short of having to copy several years worth of transactions into Quicken, is there any way I can get Quicken to download all the transactions that I see on my bank website? I did right click the account and check the box that says "download all available transactions", but it made no difference. No new transactions were downloaded. I suppose I can also restore all of my Quicken accounts from a back up, but that seems drastic, and would be a couple of days out of date. I don't see any way to restore a single account from a back up.

Anybody have any suggestions how to get back the transactions that Quicken lost, but are still in my bank website?

    Banks usually don't provide more than a few months worth of transactions via download. Best thing is to restore from a recent backup & update from there. Next time pay close attention to the final screen when setting up accounts for online access and make sure that the associations between Quicken accounts and bank accounts is correct.

    You're seeing that message because both the restored file and the messed-up file are trying to access your same Quickn Cloud account — and Quicken doesn't allow that. Even if you don't use Quicken mobile or sync your transactions to Quicken Cloud, every desktop data file has a Cloud file associated with it for authenticating you as a user for things like downloading stock prices or using the in-program Report a Problem feature.

    In this case, you want the restored data file to be your real file going forward, so you do want to reset Quicken cloud to use the restored file rather than the messed-up file.

    Thank you. I think you are right. I'll restore from two days ago, then update.

    I used to be able to set up a new account in Quicken first, then download and direct the downloaded account to load into the new account I had set up in Quicken. This way things lined up correctly. It seems that now Quicken does not allow me to set up a new account before downloading, and this is where a mismatch occured.

    I have restored to a back up from two days ago, intending to update to current values. The back up does have my old transactions for the account Quicken had messed up.

    When I went to update, I got a message on the screen that I have never seen before. "Only the latest version of a file can use Quicken cloud." Apparently, it's refusing to update this back up file that I have restored to. It's asking me if I want to reset Quicken cloud for this file and I have absolutely no idea what to do. There is no guidance provided with this message. Can anyone help?

    Now if only a good explanation like that were provided with the error message that pops up, I would have known what was going on.
