Category help

Question

I have history dating back to 1992 and have not been consistent with assigning the correct  categories.  How can I do a mass update to correct the categories that need to be fixed?  So far I've created a report showing all the payees and categories.  Is there a simpler way of correcting these categories instead of going line by line through the report?

Have you tried Edit / Find/Replace?

Find all banking transactions with the old category, select the ones you wish to change, then replace with the new category name.

Be sure to have or create a backup of your Quicken data file before you get started making changes. If you were to make a mistake and find it difficult to undo it, restoring from your backup may be the way out.

Thank you!  The problem is that I have a Category called Household, and then several sub-categories such as  Gifts, Lawn and Garden, Maintenance etc.   It’s those sub categories that are in-accurate that I would like to update to the correct sub category.   Appreciate the help.

Is the problem with just using the wrong category or having multiple variations of the same category?

Like "fuel" vs "gas" as categories for your car.
