The balance in an investing account depends on the number of shares of each security you hold and the price per share. Because the share prices vary, it also depends on the date and/or time of the quote for each security. If you hold stocks and/or ETFs, these prices vary throughout the day.

In general it is most important for the share count balances to match. In Quicken, you can click on the gear at the top right of the account and select Reconcile shares the see any discrepancies. It is best to fix any discrepancies by correcting the transactions recorded in Quicken rather than letting Quicken create Placeholders to force them to match.

You can also click on Holdings for the account and compare the details with those reported by Fidelity. If this does not explain the discrepancies, please post back with more details.

Thanks for your response. My share counts are correct. The differences I'm having between the online & downloaded amounts are only off by a few cents. Any idea what could cause that? This is a Fidelity account and it's a Quicken direct connect account.

    Thank you!

Are you manually recording Buy, Sell, Add or Remove Shares transactions?
If so, are you entering these transactions using number of shares, Commission (if any) and total transaction amount, letting Quicken calculate price per share to as many decimal places as it wants/needs to?
If you enter a transaction as the result of number of shares * price per shares, in some cases there may be rounding errors and the total transaction amount will be off by a few cents.

Another possible explanation for "a few cents" … look at each security to see if they are also off by pennies,

This can be explained by Q using 5/4 rounding for values and Fidelity (I'm their customer also) truncating.

Probably rounding differences. I don't worry about $5 diff or less.

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.
